A look behind the scenes with industrial tourism in Rotterdam!
Although Rotterdam and its region already have a lot of interesting sites to offer, a new phenomenon can be added to its tourism potential; Industrial Tourism.
Industrial Tourism makes it possible to visit an essentially non-tourist part of Rotterdam: its harbour and industrial area. You can choose to visit various companies which are situated in the area between the city centre and the "Maasvlakte", an industrial area created in the sea. Normally these companies are not accessible for anyone other than employees, an exception is made for participants of the tours. A tour by boat and/or coach will provide you with a special look behind the scenes in these companies.
For example you can visit the specialised Rotterdam Car Terminal, an independent terminal operator in the port of Roterdam, close to densely populated areas, Specialized in the handling of cars and other Ro-Ro cargo; The EMO dry bulk terminal, the largest dry bulk Terminal in Europe and it specializes in the unloading and storage of iron ore and coal;
Marcor Stevedoring or the Fruit Terminal Rotterdam, Fruit and vegetables arriving in the Port of Rotterdam are handled by Seabrex at its own terminals located in the heart of Rotterdam Fruitport; or a great polluted sludge storage lake and so on…..
All tours are accompanied by guides, who are not only well acquainted with the area, but also experts on the specific sites you are visiting. Your look behind the scenes will, therefore, consist of two main impressions; the visual and the learning thanks to the knowledge of your guide. These two experiences integrated in one tour will definitely provide you with a fun and interesting time.
Industrial Tourism Rotterdam offers special programmes tailor-made to your wishes for business-related visitors as well as special interest groups.
